PROJECT SUMMARY
The City of Revere Fire Department undertook a transformative $15 million project to demolish the aging Point of Pines Fire Station and construct a modern replacement facility at the same location on the Revere shoreline, serving the Point of Pines coastal neighborhood.
Site Development Challenges - Revere, MA: The constrained urban site required demolition of the existing operational fire station while maintaining emergency services for the Point of Pines community. The project necessitated the acquisition of an adjacent parcel from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)—adding governmental coordination complexity to an already demanding construction timeline.
Transportation Infrastructure Coordination: One of the most critical challenges involved coordinating construction activities with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) for the reconfiguration of an existing bus turnaround facility located at the fire station site. This work required simultaneous coordination with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) for rerouting an on-ramp and off-ramp to State Route 1 (a major state highway adjacent to the site) to prevent costly construction delays and schedule impacts.
The new Revere fire station scope of work included:
- Three-bay apparatus housing for modern fire trucks and emergency vehicles
- Two-story construction with firefighter living quarters and administrative offices
- Community meeting space for neighborhood engagement
- Complete utility infrastructure replacement , including domestic water service, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, electrical service, and natural gas service
- Exterior firefighter memorial
- Full ADA accessibility compliance
- Emergency generator system
Energy Efficiency Requirements: The project required coordination with the Massachusetts Save (MassSave) energy efficiency program to maximize operational cost savings and meet state energy conservation requirements for municipal buildings.

This project demonstrates SOCOTEC's expertise in complex municipal construction project management, multi-agency coordination, and delivering critical public safety infrastructure on time and within budget for Massachusetts communities.
“We worked with 90% of the municipalities in Eastern Massachusetts and the City of Revere is a very exciting new addition to our client base as it is one of the largest municipalities in the Metro-Boston area. Furthermore, public safety is currently a hot market center in Massachusetts and breaking into this sector has proven very difficult over the last few years as we’ve always competed against larger firms with substantial public safety experience. This project represents a positive trajectory in our firm’s reputation and adds to what is already a very exciting time for our entire company.”
