The Challenge
Supporting a Complex Campus Expansion in Florida
Arthrex is a leading company in orthopedic products and procedures based in Naples. Located within the Creekside Business Park on the southwest portion of the intersection of Immokalee Road and Goodlette-Frank Road in the North Naples portion of Collier County, the Arthrex Corporate Campus expansion project includes:
- the construction of a six-story “mid-rise” administrative building
- a six-level pre-cast parking garage
- a four-story atrium INNovation hotel structure
- a two-story Wellness Center
- a cast-in-place plaza deck and pavilion
- a pre-cast bridge to by-pass the existing canal allowing for the sports/activity turf area
The administrative building and parking garage presented a significant geotechnical challenge. With extremely high loads and large column spans, the structures required a ground improvement approach that could support the buildings without relying on auger cast-in-place piles.
The structures consisted of:
- concrete cast-in-place foundations
- concrete stair and elevator towers
- slabs-on-grade
- structural steel components
- pre-stressed pre-cast concrete components
The project also followed a fast-paced construction schedule, including six-day work weeks and several early-morning concrete pours. This required testing and monitoring to keep pace with ongoing site and structural work.

The Solution
Ground Improvement and Construction Testing
SOCOTEC worked alongside a specialty design-build geotechnical contractor to support the project's ground improvement program and construction activities.
Our services included:
- Vibro-replacement monitoring for the ground improvement program
- Soil improvement using geogrids
- Field density testing for site work and roadway construction
- Concrete testing
- Fireproof testing
The ground improvement program used dry bottom-feed vibro-replacement in lieu of auger cast-in-place piles. SOCOTEC's involvement helped support the use of shallow foundations for the mid-rise administrative building following completion of the vibro-replacement work.

The Results
Cost Savings and Foundation Performance
The ground improvement approach allowed the mid-rise administrative building to be supported on shallow foundations despite the high structural loads, with an estimated $3 million in project savings.
SOCOTEC's monitoring and testing services also supported construction across the campus, helping the project team maintain quality and testing requirements throughout its fast-paced construction schedule.
