The Challenge
Complex Ground Conditions
Collier County Parks and Recreation planned the Collier County Sports Complex as a destination for large sporting tournaments and community recreation.
The build-out of this project includes:
- nine multi-use synthetic-turf fields
- a large 3,000 stadium with a multi-use synthetic turf field
- baseball & softball diamonds
- a field house with locker-room facilities
The project also includes high-bay, one- and two-story structures with large spans and significant building loads, creating geotechnical challenges related to site settlement and foundation design.

Our Florida team provided geotechnical engineering expertise to help address settlement conditions and support an efficient foundation approach.
Based on its geotechnical assessment, SOCOTEC recommended the use of a geo-grid to help control excessive settlement to tolerable limits. This approach allowed the project to be constructed using shallow foundations, avoiding the need for vibro-replacement.
