The Challenge
Large-Scale Mixed-Use Campus Development with Underground Parking
The Theatre District Living and Learning Neighborhood of UC San Diego includes five buildings ranging from 9 to 21 stories, providing approximately 2,000 new undergraduate beds, classrooms, administration offices, a 480-seat auditorium, conference/meeting spaces, restaurants, and retail—all totaling roughly 900,000 gross square feet.
The 11.8-acre site at the southwestern edge of the La Jolla campus required significant grading and coordination with existing campus infrastructure, including a valet drop-off, transit hub, Ridge Walk extension, and recreation/wellness spaces. The project also incorporated four levels of below-grade parking for about 1,200 vehicles, adding complexity to excavation and foundation construction.
