Erosion along Coplay Creek was identified as a contributing source of pollutant loading to the watershed.

As part of Whitehall Township's Pollution Reduction Plan, the Coplay Creek Stream Bank Restoration project was developed to address stream bank erosion that threatened water quality and increased pollutant loads entering the watershed. The Township sought a sustainable solution that would stabilize the creek while enhancing the surrounding ecosystem through environmentally beneficial stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs).

Following the project's initiation, the scope expanded to include fish habitat improvements, requiring additional surveying, environmental permitting, and coordination with multiple agencies. The project also required active communication with residents and stakeholders to explain the proposed improvements and their long-term environmental benefits.
