The Challenge
Supporting Philadelphia's Vision Zero Initiative
The Philadelphia Department of Streets awarded this on-call contract to support the City’s Vision Zero initiative, which aims to eliminate traffic deaths by 2030 through safer street design.
Under this contract, AEG, a SOCOTEC Company, completed numerous work orders across a variety of public infrastructure projects. These assignments supported improvements to streets, trails, bridges, and school areas throughout Philadelphia while addressing key community needs related to safety, accessibility, and mobility.
The projects required responsive engineering support across diverse environments, including transit plazas, pedestrian facilities, roadway corridors, bridges, and school zones. Each assignment required technical expertise and coordination to help the City advance its commitment to creating safer and more accessible public infrastructure.
The Solution
Engineering, Surveying, and Inspection Services
Throughout the contract, AEG, a SOCOTEC Company, provided engineering, surveying, and inspection services across multiple public infrastructure projects.
Key assignments included:
- Chelten & Greene Plaza Improvements, providing field surveys, ADA ramp design, and utility coordination to support the expansion and modernization of a transit plaza in Germantown
- Fox Chase Lorimer Trail, performing topographic surveys and ADA ramp design from Rawn Street to Rockledge, establishing control points, and preparing base plans
- Elevation surveys for 22 properties, including the preparation of a summary table of addresses, elevations, and field notes
- Cottman Avenue Streetscape, providing survey and ADA ramp design services across three work orders, designing 39 ADA ramps, and performing traffic counts at four intersections
- Bridge Load Ratings, completing load rating analyses for seven structures throughout Philadelphia
- Cramp Elementary School, furnishing preliminary and final engineering design, permitting, and construction documents for traffic calming interventions, including the design of 54 ADA ramps
- Pine Road Bridge Rehabilitation Project, supporting the project with site surveys and base mapping
- Andrew Hamilton School, surveying and designing eight ADA ramps to enhance intersection safety and deter illegal parking in support of the City's Vision Zero goals
