The Challenge

Building the First Public Elementary School in Mission Valley

Nipaquay Elementary School is the first public elementary school to be constructed in the Mission Valley area of San Diego County, California.

Located at the corner of Via Alta and Civita Boulevard, the new campus was built to serve up to 500 students from preschool through 5th grade, welcoming children from the Civita residential development as well as families from the broader Mission Valley and Fashion Valley neighborhoods.

With sustained growth expected in the area, the project was designed to get ahead of the increasing demand for a local neighborhood school. The campus incorporates flexible learning environments with roll-up doors that connect interior classrooms directly to outdoor spaces, reinforcing an environmental science curriculum anchored in sustainable design.

Additional site improvements include:

  • Permanent soldier beam and lagging retaining walls

  • New parking facilities and pedestrian circulation upgrades

  • Play areas, hardscaping, and landscaping

  • Associated underground site utilities
