About Rupert PRICE

Mr. Price has multi-national structural design experience having worked in Thornton Tomasetti’s London, Abu Dhabi, and Chicago offices before joining SOCOTEC.

Having spent the first several years of his career on design projects, he now focuses on litigation cases involving construction defects, structural failures and construction-related site injuries.

Throughout his ten-year career, Mr. Price has been involved in a wide range of projects developing skills designing and analyzing structures utilizing all the major construction materials. He leverages a strong background in design and applies this to forensic investigations and structural failures.

Mr. Price is a Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois, a Professional Engineer in Minnesota, Washington, and Texas, and a Chartered Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers in London. He also has a Master’s degree in Civil Structural and Environmental Engineering from the University of Cambridge.

FORENSIC & LITIGATION SUPPORT

  • SWLRT - Currie Maintenance Facility, Minneapolis, MN - Investigated cause of damage at a building adjacent to ongoing construction activity. Designed repairs and oversaw implementation in the field.
  • SWLRT - CICA Building, Minneapolis, MN - Investigated cause of damage at high-rise condominium association building. Developed monitoring program for continuing construction and oversaw construction activities in the field.
  • 109 E Bellevue, Chicago, IL - Litigation support for a residential development in downtown Chicago. Liaised directly with the City of Chicago Department of Buildings to gain permit approval for the development.
  • 811 Emerson, Evanston, IL - Peer review and structural analysis oversight for repairs following the buckling of a steel column during construction.
  • Water Tower Place, Chicago, IL - Investigation and ongoing inspection of the façade of this 74-story landmark building.
  • Buresh, Peru, IL - Forensic analysis of the collapse of a long-span truss structure. Additional analysis and review of 6 similar structures across the U.S.
  • Confidential Stadium Project - Investigation into construction defects on a large stadium project resulting in excessive deflections during de-propping.
  • Confidential Bridge Project - Investigation into the seismic design of a bridge and project cost overruns.
  • Radio Tower, Joplin, MO - Investigation into alleged damage to a 700-foot radio tower structure.
  • Egg Farm Collapse, WI - Investigation and condition assessment of several long-span farm buildings following the collapse of buildings on the site.
  • Whitestown Collapse, Whitestown, IN - Partial building collapse during a heavy storm.
  • Tanglewood, Houston, TX - Litigation support for a renovation project claiming the EOR did not properly design and/or construct the subject building. Subsequent design of retrofit repairs following design investigation.
  • Student Housing Project, Normal, IL - Structural design assessment of an existing precast concrete building to identify defects in the original design. Analysis, design and implementation of repairs to be completed in the field.
  • Peninsula at St. John’s Center vs. Sterling Dula, Duval County, FL - Litigation support for the alleged structural failure of ornamental screens.
  • Bolivar vs. HRB Construction, Hutchinson County, TX - Analysis of the construction and design of a group of silos and catwalk experiencing distress.
  • Missig vs. Atlas Restoration, Channahon, IL - Dispute regarding a foundation settlement and slope failure.
  • Prince Rupert Silos, British Columbia, Canada - Investigation of the partial failure of four steel silos.
  • 1433 N Wells, Chicago, IL - Conducted building condition assessment and monitoring services of a 100-year-old building in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood. 
  • ATS Guideway, Chicago, IL - Forensic data analysis to determine the cause of fit up issues to this bridge structure near O’Hare Airport. 
  • Mortensen vs. Dukane, Hoffman Estates, IL - Litigation support services for alleged construction defects to a precast parking garage.
  • Marianos Ashland, Chicago, IL - Litigation support for a construction defect case involving concrete and waterproofing issues. 
  • Hurricanes Maria and Irma, Puerto Rico - Documenting damage to structures at Airports and Piers across the island following high winds experienced during consecutive Hurricanes in 2017.
  • Hurricane Harvey, Houston, TX - Emergency response to document damage to a variety of structures due to high winds and flooding in the Houston area.
