Energy Code Compliance in New York

New York City has some of the country’s strictest compliance regulation for energy. Two key requirements are Local Law 86 and Local Law 87:

  • Local Law 86 requires certain publicly funded projects to meet sustainable design standards, often tied to LEED certification.
  • Local Law 87 mandates that large buildings (over 50,000 sq. ft.) undergo an energy audit and energy code compliance inspection every 10 years.

Energy Code Compliance in Boston

Boston’s Building Emissions Reduction and Disclosure Ordinance (BERDO) requires mid-sized and large buildings to report annual energy and water use, with emissions limits taking effect in 2025 or 2030. Non-compliance can result in fines, making proactive energy compliance service essential.
