The Challenge
Passive House Compliance in Boston
Welcome Home Harvard Street is a new residential building designed to meet the Passive House requirements mandated under the Massachusetts Opt-In Stretch Code 2023, adopted by the City of Boston. For projects subject to this code, Passive House certification is a required energy compliance pathway.
The project team needed expert guidance to navigate multiple compliance pathways, optimize the building envelope design, and ensure the 17,000-square feet residential building, composed of 13-units, would achieve exceptional energy efficiency while remaining economically viable.
Additionally, the project aimed to secure Mass Save incentives, requiring careful documentation and energy modeling to demonstrate compliance with program requirements and maximize financial benefits for the client.
SOCOTEC was engaged early in the project to guide the design and construction team through these challenges while maintaining alignment with project goals, schedule, and regulatory requirements.
